I am new to Filemaker and I am trying to create a database to keep track of feed inventory and feed consumption from our dairy cows.

I purchase feeds like corn, canola, alfalfa. The  I mix different amounts of them to create different Rations. Once the Rations are created we deliver the different rations to different groups of cows. e.g . milk cow ration to the Milking Cows, Dry Cow Ration to the Dry Cows, etc.

I would like to keep track of my raw ingredients (corn, alfalfa, etc) after creating the Ration and delivering it to the cows.

Looking into the posts, it looks like I need to use BOM and portal entries. I am having trouble understanding how to set up the tables and their relationships and also the Portal.

Is there a sample file that can help me understand how to set up this database correctly?

Thanks for any help.
