I would like to import data from a "template" table to a "sizes" table with matching fields. How do you do this?
Export Records is simply selecting the field(s) from related table(s) in the dialog. Context is key here! Where you export (from a parent or a child) will give you different results. Export/Save as (Excel), for example to see what you get from both contexts.
Import Records can only import into ONE table at a time.
So if you are trying to export multiple tables (from FileMaker Pro) and import them (back into FileMaker Pro), you should export them separately (no related fields included).
Matching names only works if the names of the fields are the same, when you import. Do you have different field names in the two tables? Is there a reason to have them different?
There are ways to make the data "flow" from one table into another if the found set is not large. This would be a Loop script with Set Field (from one into the other). But this works best On Server even with small found sets. I use this method for clients that get feeds (from SQL or Excel) that have different column/field matches.
