Trying set conditional formatting based on Unicode character

I have a field set in a database that contains just one character.  For the solution required,  a conditional format sets the colour of an object based on the character in that field.  In this case, the conditional format tests to see if the character is "m" or "M".  I have researched and found that the default language for the field needs to be set to Unicode.  The formulas for conditional formatting rules though still cannot differentiate between m and M.  In the formulas for the conditional formatting, I have had to use the decimal value returned by the "Code" function in order to get the desired results.  Listed below is the conditional formatting formulas:

Formula is Code (fieldname) = 77  (this tests for M)

Formula is Code (fieldname) = 109  (This tests for m)

Is there any easier way for the do this?  I would appreciate any feedback.
