I couldn't figure out how to search the community for an answer to my question. It may have been answered multiple times before.
What steps do I take to convert my old FMP12 for Mac to a FMP16 for Mac?
Purchase a license for FileMaker Pro 16
Install FileMaker Pro 16
Drag FileMaker Pro 12 from your applications folder into your trash can
Use FileMaker Pro 16
Optional - right click on the icon and select "keep in dock" to keep the shortcut in your dock.
There are no conversions, file format changes or anything that would require "conversion" for most use cases.
.fmp12 has been the file format since v12 and is still valid in 16.
If you run into any issues with the above simple process, please post a more detailed explanation of where you get stuck.
Step ONE: open with FMP16.
Step TWO: see step one.
There is no file-format change. Once "converted" and 16 features used, FMP12 will no longer be able to use them.
I appreciate your reply. Lots of internet chatter led me to think this was complicated. It ain't. It works.
Thanks from a grateful farmer.
