I'm trying to re-link our 'Contact Managament' file to our customer database. They are on our filemaker server and when trying to re-link I get the message it can not be done as files are in use. How would I get around this issue?
Shared your files on Server or Internal FM Clients?
Did the users have access to use that file?
Try open that solution as admin member, then check their privilege has enabled for "fmapp" in extended privileges!
Else check that & try!
The exact message I get is
“customers.fmp12” is currently in use and could not be opened. If the file is shared, you can use the Open Remote command to open the file on the network. (If you’ve opened the file before, check the Open Recent menu.)
I do have full access
Some ideas to check:
Also, please give the following information:
And what exactly is "the data manager" you mention. Is it in the File Menu-> Manage-> Database?
And what do you mean when you write "on an advanced copy"?
Im am selecting the customers.fmp12 directly from the server folder with 'the add file' button so the name is correct.
contact management.fmp12 is our database and I need to link it to customers.fmp12
I get the message it can not be done as files are in use
This may point to something extremely dangerous in your deployment: it sounds like you are selecting the files through the OS, through file sharing. If the files are hosted on FMS you *should not, under any circumstance* be able to locate the files through an OS-level file share.
FMS is the only thing that should have access to the files. It has a lock on them and anything else that can and will try to access them through a share or otherwise is likely to damage your files at some point.
Linking files in FM once they are hosted is done through selecting files from "open remote".
