is it possible to restrict access to FileMaker Pro > Preferences in Custom Menus or in any other way?
So you want to tell someone who pays good money for FileMaker that they cannot access Privileges, not only for the database you create for them, but for any databases they create for themselves?
Thanks for your reply
It is a customer requirement. “Please Block preferences for my user”
Hope this clarifies it
Can you help?
It is just for certain users. only for certain databases
It is a common request. Company pays for the licensing and they specify what they want. Often they want FMP to be a single use Application with very limited features for users.
One of the top requests is not allowing users to create new databases. Another one is the request to change the name of the FMP application itself to their own name. After all, it is a “Custom App”, right?
In certain situations where FMP is userd for data processing and data storage/FMS is not required I have sold Runtimes for up to 20% more (or more) than FMP with FMS licensing and hosting because they value the branding aspects of the Runtime. I make a good amount of money and FMI loses out on sales. I would prefer to use FMS and have them license FMP but it is what the client wants. When Runtimes are no longer available, they will likely move to another platform to get what they want. Plenty of options for cross platform applications that push and pull data from a cloud database. Sure, the cost goes up with th loss of FM rapid development, but they value the branding that much. The largest client I did this for has 15 users.
Why FMI continues to not see the demand for this is beyond me. If they offered Runtime like Branding ( or better) to FMP many companies would pay up to 20% more to license it.
Customer want standard users to be restricted and SuperUsers to be able to access FileMaker Pro >preferences.
