Looking for a way to count records with a condition

I have an EVENTS table joined to a TODO table.

I create ToDo records through a portal and the relationship.

Each time I leave the ToDo name field in the portal I have a script trigger that sets a field in the EVENTS table using this calculation

Count ( events_TODO_Match_fkEventID::__pkEventToDoID )

This works great but now I would like to count only the ToDo records that are not marked as "Done".

I was thinking that I could set up another table occurrence connecting EVENTS to TODO and only match a record if it has the _fkEventsID and the eventToDoStatus field is not equal to "Done". Then I would be able to count ToDo records based on that relationship and should get the desired effect.

But I thought there might be a better way that doesn't have to require another table occurrence.

Any thoughts on how to count only the ToDo records that are not equal to "Done" within the calculation?

Thanks,

Outcomes
