I have imported thousands of records of businesses with NAICS codes. They range in length from 2 to 6 numbers. I have sorted some key info by the codes, but the list is too long. I want to create a new field where all NAICS codes are limited to the first three, and, if there is only two numbers, It should add a 0 to the end, so that it won't read as 011. It should read as 110 if the code is 11. I have NO idea how to do this. I saw a post for shortening numbers, but can't see how to add the 0 to the end of two digit numbers.

If you wonder, why three numbers, two are too broad for the research we're doing, 6 way to narrow.

Thanks, Tana

Howdy and WELCOME, Tana!

There are a few functions to help.

I've appended "000" (three digits) to the end first, so there will

alwaysbe at least 3 digits. Then regardless of what the length of your number, the Left ( ___ ; 3 ) takesonlythe first 3 digits of the combined field and appended text.HTH,

Beverly

p.s. You may not want the "000", if so let me know. AND your result should be text not number.
