Extracting Metadata from Excel

Hi All,

FM14. PC and Mac.  FMS14.

I have a database of orders.  These orders are delivered by a 3rd party delivery service that emails us an Excel spreadsheet half a dozen updates per day showing the delivery 'status' of the orders, (delivered/undelivered etc...).

I need to update the FM records using this supplied data. Unfortunately, the Excel files do not contain any data that identifies which file is the latest version.  In order to prevent overwriting current data from an older Excel sheet I need to identify which is the latest version and record this data in the FM file so that my Import script can check if the file being imported is later than the last import (there are multiple users of the FM database, any of whom at any point may try and update the FM database).

The only way I think I can do this is to use the metadata creation timestamp in the Excel file.  Is there a way to do this? Or perhaps a better way in your experience?

Many thanks as always.
