Command-F to return all records containing a search string

I used to be able to type command-F to get the find option in FM and type some text in a field and hit return then it would give me all records with that text in the field. Now it only returns records that begin with the text I type. I found out I can type *textstring* and get any record with the textstring in the field but it is a pain to have to add the * before and after compared to just entering the text like I did in the past. Is there any way to get it to work like it did in the past where I can simply type the text string and get al records that contain that text string using the command-F find option? Thank you.
