Anybody know how to get the FMP URL to open FM17? Ideally it would open the version where it is invoked or if from another source it would use the latest version. Currently if I have link in a web view in fm17 it tries to open 16.
MacOS or Windows?
For Windows, usually the registry defines it, so the last version you installed gets it.
For MacOS; you can set it via MBS FileMaker Plugin: MBS("URLScheme.SetDefaultHandler"; "fmp")
or run on Mac in Terminal the lsregister app to register FileMaker 17 as default handler:
I have exactly the same problem.
I run ./lsregister -r -f "/Applications/FileMaker Pro 17 Advanced/FileMaker Pro Advanced.app"
without any luck
When I look at the -dump, both versions are registered. and include FMP under the URLscheme. Actually I have versions 13,14,15,16 and now 17 installed. Every year it was always ok after the new install but this time not.
I ended up downloading this little preference pane app
You can configure all URL schemes with a GUI.

You have also to change the ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.LaunchServices/com.apple.launchservices.secure.plist file, by adding or changing the following part:
It could be that you have to restart before it becomes affective.
But Rubicode is a more user friendly alternative ofcoarse.
Thanks, KoenVanHulle ! Nice to see you.
Here is a database I created to update fmpurl in Windows. No plug-in required.
Version 2.0 Dropbox - fmpurlWinUpdater.fmp12
Thank you Koen.
I wish it could get addressed with the installer somehow.
I agree that the FMPA 17 installer should handle this automatically. I have always had multiple versions of FMPA installed. If they could, it'd be great if they released an update to 17 that would correct this so I wouldn't have to fiddle with Terminal or install third party programs.
The installer does update the url. When you install FMP it changes the url setting to that version, so if you install FM15 it changes to 15, if you install FM17 it changes to 17. The setting is based on the last version of FM you installed.
FM needs a script step that let you specify which version of FM url is the default.
or if FMI would change the filename from FileMaker Pro Advance to FileMaker Pro Advance 17 with the version number as part of the filename then the OS default program would work correctly. The OS has a problem because each version has the same filename.
That's a pretty old app. I was nervous about using it and kept searching, eventually finding this:
