Did someone forget a setting or something for FMP17?
Can't even get to were I can turn on advanced tools...
You are missing some of the requested details for an issue report.
Have you tried using assisted install as a workaround?
Assisted install doesn't help with either the scaling issue or the Advanced tools issue. Assisted Install can be used to prohibit use of Advanced tools, but they still need to be enabled from preferences. Nonetheless, the scaling issue is something else entirely.
Does the scaling problem occur in other system dialogs, toolbars or windows?
@ Howard, scaling problem occurs everywhere, with varying degrees of severity depending on the layout/text being displayed.
You are correct, my issue is not with whether advanced is on or not, I just tried illustrate the severity of the issue.
I suspect this is a core programing display issue with FMP and not easily corrected.
I would not be surprised to hear "just lower your display settings". Sure, FMP would look correct, but everything else won't.
Amazed no one else with a 4K display and text size to 150% is having the same issue.
FMP doesn't like folks with less that 20/20 perfect vision....
Text scaling in FMP has always been a huge issue. Plenty of ideas submitted around this topic in general.
FM seems to have zero consideration when it comes to accessibility. My vision is no longer 20/20, but it was still tough to read things in FM when it was that good.
Just to make it clear again, you have not included the needed information as FMI has requested.
The steps of setting the system text to 150% are not in the first post in a section “How to replicate the issue”. This also makes it difficult for others to recognize and test/confirm the problem.
My apologies for not including the system information as I doubted it would make a difference.
Product and version FMP 188.8.131.52
W10 Pro 1703,
Screen scaling set to 150%
Browser and version N/A
Hardware: Core I7, 32gb of RAM
How to replicate: Just use FMP
Workaround (if any): Non so far
Thank you for your posts.
I am unable to replicate the issue, but I do not have access to a 3440 x 1440 monitor. I have sent all information to our Development and Testing departments for review. When I receive any feedback, I will let you know.

Is this "Screen Scaling" set in the Win 10 preferences OR are you referring to FM "Zoom Level"?
Does this Bug also appear when Screen Preferences are set to default (100%? 125%) ?
There's a FM bug with Win Preferences scaling NOT set to default known for almost a decade.
There is a setting in Windows 10 to allow Windows to handing the scaling for apps.
See if anything here helps you. After the Screen scaling section, there are a few other things to try. How to Make Windows Work Better on High-DPI Displays and Fix Blurry Fonts
Windows 10 preferences not FMP17 zoom.
FMP17 shows larger type than 16. It's not an issue as much if the dialog window is resizable, but when it isn't, it crops out a lot of options, selections etc.
It's not the size of the monitor, it's the scaling. FMP 17 actually displays text larger than previous versions, but in doing that, there is too much information when the dialog window is fixed size.
I had already tried that. If it change my scaling to 100% everything is fine. However, text is really small on my high dpi monitor. I'm not going to have a computer/monitor just for 17.
You adjusted the scaling settings for FM? There were 5-6 other settings that can be tweaked.
If I remember I’ll oull out my windows 10 machine and see if I can also replicate.
I tried per application setting for FMP17. (ignore high DPI setting) and no change. It took Adobe 6 months to get it fixed on dreamweaver so I would not be surprised if it takes a cycle or two for FM to fix....
Thank you for the additional information. I have sent your latest posts to Development and Testing for review.
The notes from Testing (prior to sending your latest posts) show they have been unable to replicate the issue using Retina displays, 4K and 5K displays. Testing does not have a monitor with the same aspect ratio (21:9) and resolution (3440x1440) as your environment. Investigation into this issue is continuing.
Have you checked font zooming?. Looks like you have your fonts enlarged by 125%.
Nope, only the Display setting is 150% (see screenshots below).
Everyone else(mostly) plays nice. All FM needs to do is make ALL dialog boxes resizable instead of forcing text to fit into a fixed area.
Our Testing department has requested your system information. I have sent you a private message with instructions where to send your system information file.
Have the exact same issue, Windows 10, FMP 17.0.2.
Resolution 2560x1440, have tried a multitude of scaling options - none help.
Our Testing department would also like to see your system information. I have sent you a private message with instructions where to send your system information file. Our Testing department will try to emulate your computing environment.
I received your email and file. Thank you.
I have sent all information to our Testing department for review. I will let you know when I receive any feedback.
Our Testing department is still unable to reproduce the issue using a MacBook Pro with an external monitor using the same resolutions.
Is your System Display set for 100%? If not, change it to 100% and see if the issue still occurs.
tangobravo and Christian.Jonsson:
After several configurations, I have been able to reproduce the issue under Windows 7. Here are the steps I took:
1. In Windows 7, I right-clicked the Desktop and selected the last option "Personalize".
2. With whatever theme is selected, I clicked the icon "Window Color".
3. Under the "Item" pop-up menu, I selected "Message Box".
4. For the Font, I kept the default but doubled the Font Size from 9 to 18. I clicked "Apply".
5. I launched FileMaker Pro 17.0.2 Advanced, and opened a test file.
6. I pulled down the Edit menu and select "Preferences..."
Under FileMaker Pro 16.0.4 Advanced, the issue does not occur.
Under Microsoft WordPad, the issue does not occur.
All information has been updated in the original report.
I believe that we are seeing the same issues as it relates to items disappearing from portals on scaled screens. It seems to only be an issue with Windows as the Mac uses a different technology to provide that same function on Retina Screens.
I had kept using 16 but now need to move to 17. Did you ever find a solution to the font scaling issue?
I have not.
As as well as we have another issue if screens disappearing off the screen if the scaling is set too high. To the point where the only solution is for the user to scale the screen down, move the window and then scale the screen up.
this Windows scaling issue is really a nightmare. And we can’t detect the scaling factor, that I’m aware of, in FileMaker.
