How can set "Show only these files" in old FM16 File Settings dialog ??
I think that option is no longer available in the 'Favourite Host' settings.
However, there are other options to limit which files are shown in the Hosts dialog. Firstly, in the FileMaker Server 17 Admin Console you can enable 'Filter Databases in Client Applications' which only shows files on a host that a user has authentication for. Also, in the sharing options for an individual file, you can choose to not display it at all in the Hosts dialog, regardless of authentication.
You can filter the databases shown by account name using the filter databases in client applications.
This doesn't solve everything associated with dropping the feature from FileMaker 17. I have all the files hidden on a server for security purposes, but as a developer I still want to see a list of them when I touch the server so I can pick the one I need to work on without having to manually key in the filename each time.
Another example of FMI's hamfisted attempts at "streamlining" things that were useful and unobtrusive.
Adding the files you have to key in manually to MyApps allows you to Open them from File > MyApps. I find this is often easier than having to go via the server.
Good tip – but this can't be shown as a list rather than as giant icons? If you have a bunch this screen will fill up fast.
It's ironic, but FMI acts like the worst kind of developer, the kind my clients complain about and praise me for not being – the kind who think they know better than the client, who create features according to their own ideas and specifications, and who change things arbitrarily, without consultation.
Yep, would be nice if the My Apps view had these options to switch between list and icon view and search option in the same way as the 'Hosts' window does, and works very well there:
One thing that is nice in the My Apps window is the ability to drag to re-arrange the icons, so you can have your most used or 'currently working on' ones at the top :-)
