Relationships with Three Tables

I have three tables with the following fields (table names are in all caps).  For simplicity I only included a primary key one table but al have them. the foreignKey in CABLE and the key in TYPE are related

TYPE

key

type

voltage

CABLE

forignKey

size

insulationThickness

DATA

voltage

size

insulationThickness

Example Data

TYPE: 1,A,600

DATA: 600,#1, 60; 600,#2, 45

I create a layout based on the TYPE table with a portal to the CABLE Table,  I want to create a new entry in the portal    and enter size "#2" and and I want the insulationThickness field to be updated to include the correct value from the DATA table, in this case that would be "45".

The only way I can see to do this would be to create another field in the CABLE table would be a calculated value pulling the voltage from the linked TYPE table.

Now I don't really need that field as I can simply access it via the relationship but I think I need the field to create a relationship to the DATA table so I can get the DATA that is in there.

Am I correct or is there a way I can do that without the additional CABLE-voltage field?
