I need to be able to search a text field for an exact match, including case.
Some one entered: MOnday Morning
I need to find MOnday Morning, not Monday Morning.
I could explain why, but why bother.
One other option, and it depends on what you're trying to do.
If you have many records with "Monday Morning", and one with "MOnday Morning", and you just want a one-time quick fix...
1. Enter Find Mode. Set that field with ==Monday Morning Perform the find.
2. Use Replace Field Contents to replace the contents of that field for that found set. The records with "Monday Morning" won't be changed, but the one with "MOnday Morning" will get switched to what you want.
What about the Exact function FileMaker Pro 17 Advanced Help
I can think of two options. I'm sure there are all sorts of ways.
1) Go into Manage Database, click on that field. Go into Options. Under Storage, change the Default Language for Indexing to Unicode. You can change it back after you fix the problem.
2) Create a calculated variable. Use an ExecuteSQL calculation to select the ID where that field is equal to that value. ExecuteSQL is case sensitive.
Much depends on whether you want to find records with this text or find instances of this text within a text field. The first reply could be used to search the contents of a text field while the second reply recommends ways to find records.
“I could explain why, but why bother?”
If you “bother” it helps us to help you. You might even get suggestions that eliminate the need to do this kind of search.
The part about "eliminate the need to do this kind of search" is absolutely true. I thought about writing such comment but was shy about it. I thought about the Auto-Enter Calculation feature that would eliminate such problem but we don't know if it is really a problem as you clearly stated.
Creating New Spot Name is highly controlled. Sometime they need to change a Spot Name for which I search to make sur ether name hasn't been used before for this campaign.
This has been fine for years.
Today someone type Monday like MOnday. When they went to change it the system said it had already been used.
I could add a step to not include the current spot name when checking this, but I thought I'g ask.
You might be able to change the indexing option as previously described and then validating for unique values might still work.
Whether you should allow Monday and MOnday as acceptable unique values is another issue.
Well when you have movies like iJobs dictating case is not an option. But thank for all the excellent recommendations
So. you have your answer for a quick fix but, if I may, what are you going to do to fix the problem definitely before next time?
