I have made a field "sum" which calculates the average of two amount. but also at the same time, I want to make that field editable incase I need to put amount other then average of two amount. How can I do it?
Layer a temp field underneath it with a button on the calc field which goes to the temp field when clicked...
then have the calc field calculation set to
If ( isempty (temp field; WhateverYourCalcIs ; temp field)
Is one way of forcing the issue.... put some conditional formatting on the calc field to change the colour so you know its being overridden by your temp field.
A number field with an auto-enter calculation field can have both a calculation and be editable. It may take some trial and error to get the right calculation and the right auto-enter options.
I have attached an image which shows a number field "tution tsie new copy" and I selected the "do not replace existing value" box and also has written the calculation script. but its not giving me the calculated value even if there should be. the field is blank and editable. m I making any mistake here?
Adding a new auto-enter calculation to a table that already has records (or changing an existing auto-enter calculation, does not automatically update the field for the existing records. You'd need to use the same calculation with Replace Field Contents to update the field. Also, auto-enter calculations won't update when data from either a related table occurrence or a global field that the calculation references is modified.
So you may need that added number field after all.
Sorry but I am more confused now. I made a new field with auto enter calc, in the picture only the name is same. What do you mean by "You'd need to use the same calculation with Replace Field Contents to update the field".
You'll need to do a batch update of all existing records.
Put the field on a layout based on that table.
Show All records
Click into that field
Choose Replace field contents from the Records menu
Select the Calculation option
Enter or paste the same calculation that you defined for your auto-enter calculation.
Do the replace.
Do this at a time when no one is editing any of these records as you won't be able to update the field for any user where they are currently editing the record.
Thank you Phil. Its working..
