Checkbox frame is bigger when object lines are set to none

I've put valuelist checkboxes on  brand new layout. I tried to make the object frame as small as possible, to just let the actual checkbox frame visible.

But if I toggle the checkbox object lines to none rather than solid 0, the checkbox frame visible isn't visible entirely anymore : object lines set to none take more estate than lines set to solid with 0 thickness. That's really weird, it should be the same or at least the opposite.

Here are screenshots

And that bad behavior still shows in browse mode.

Furthermore the solid way could take more CSS space than none, so that's more cluttered CSS

Mac 10.3.5, not sure FM16 / 17 or both (as I'm using both and don't remember)
