I am currently testing a server based database on FileMaker Go 17. I have noticed that FileMaker Go 17 uses double the battery power that FileMaker Go 16 uses. Has anyone else noticed this?
I had to update my iPad from iOS 10 to iOS 11 for FileMaker 17... that change consumed much more battery
Seems to be better now, but I got the impression that it eats more battery as under iOS10 (not FM dependent)
I have several apps that seem to consume more battery (and also run hotter) under upgraded iOS. I wonder if the version of the device has any factor as well?
Curious how you measured ‘twice the battery power’. Also some more details from people that feel it is taking more battery / hotter.
Stand alone apps or server based?
I am still on 16.
Issue resolved - Filemaker Go 17 had the location setting as 'Always'.
I changed the setting to 'While Using' (the same setting as I had with FM Go 16) and problem solved!
I've found that notifications, location, & Siri can be a source of extra battery usage. But I still have apps where these are 'off' and in airplane mode, they still seem to eat battery more than other apps.
I managed it to drain the battery of my iPad (the first generation of the smaller pro) during 16hrs..
I checked what was used the most using ‘battery’ in settings.. mostly safari and Youtube (had to view some tutorials, takes time..). FileMaker Go was not a factor, although used every now and then during that day for protocolling, etc)
I never had this before - but I was using quite some apps and switched a lot between them. Under iOS 11, an app often does kind of a restart when one switches to that app from another one (splash screen appears, thats why I thinking of this).. could be, that the iOS in general with its methods eats battery (not every time!).
The days after that drain, battery usage was ‘normal’ again, means 60+ percent full after a day
I also realized that ’something’ is active behind the scenes.. Sometimes, I’m tiping faster than FMGo can get it - for example, I’m tiping fast, realize a tipo, hit delete a few times - and can watch FMGo deleting (more characters that I wanted...). Also, a popover will sometimes move in slowmotion to its position...
