I am new to FM and trying to figure out conditional formatting on a selected field.
Lets say I have a checkbox and until the checkbox is selected, I want a drop-down list to be greyed out.
How would I do that?
Do you just want to change the color or make it unselectable?
Use conditional formatting.
In Layout mode, select the field and right click Conditional formatting... then click Add the Condition Formula is then click Specify and select your checkbox field. Then check fill color ...
You could also hide the field on fourth tab of inspector and enter IsEmpty(checkbox field)
I have two fields: Checkbox and DropDownMenu
if checkbox is selected, then DropDownMenu shows values otherwise it is not editable/greyed out
You can't conditionally format the values listed in a drop down list. You can change the appearance of the field and any data visible in it.
You may need to explore alternative options for providing the visual cues that you want here, perhaps even using two copies of the field, where one denies browse mode access. Then use Hide Object When to hide the other field and show the "no browse mode" copy until the check box is clicked. This will keep users out of the value list unless that box is checked.
How do I use Hide Object When?
I am not certain to understand the first sentence of your answer. What about the picture (2 states on top of each other) below.
In top picture, the value list selection is still possible but field is color formatted.
Hide would obviously work.
I like the two fields method though.
I gave you the method in my answer.
If you select the list field, go to inspector fourth tab, and enter in the Hide object when
Then the drop list field will be hidden until you check the box
If you have a drop down list with the values: "Apple", "Orange", "Pear", You can change the fill color of the field. If you select "Pear" from the value list, you can conditionally change the color of the the text "pear" in the field. But if you click into the value list, the listed values, Apple, Orange, Pear will not have changed appearance in the deployed value list.
"the value listed" now I understand what you meant. Thank you.
if yes is selected, then the drop-down menu shows the list otherwise it is greyed out
There are only three tabs in Inspector in FM PRO 12
make it unselectable
I can't remember when the Hide function appeared maybe it's FMP 13, so we maybe need another solution.
Do you have script trigger in FMP12?
If yes, Set the value field not editable, so at first it will be empty, set a script trigger on the Checkbox field OnObjectModify.
The script will then open a new window small size with the drop down list editable.
Do you need help to write the script?
The old method to get a field to appear or disappear is to have a relationship set between a calculation field equal to 1 and your checkbox field. Draw a portal with 1 row 1 pixel bigger all around the value list field. Put the value list field inside that portal perfectly centered.when you'll check the box the dropdown list will appear
