Our developer is requesting that we run FM Server 16 instead of 17. We have already purchased our new FM 17 license for this year, is there a way for us to just get the Server in 16?
I would think you would have to ask FileMaker Sales about that, but I’m very curious as to why your developer is asking for Server 16 rather than 17?
He mentioned that Server 17 had some issues, did’t really elaborate on it.
There are a number of cases where I am not able to upgrade clients to FMS16 because of existing hardware deployment not being compatible with what is available in FM17. This is only an upgrade issue.
Did you ever own FMS16? If not, FMI will not provide a downgrade for you. The downgrade system is only for installs that need to go back to 16 for some technical reason that is related to upgrade. It is not a pay for current version and get whatever previous version you want thing.
So if you are new to FM licensing with FM17, you will need to deploy FMS17. I think you should get details from your developer on why FMS17 is not good enough.
To answer you question specifically: it can be downloaded, but you cannot get a license key. This makes the download useless.
Thanks for the replies, I had not owned 16 yet but was looking to upgrade
and all I saw available was the new FMP 17 package that included the
server. Since this is the only option we are going to go with this for now
and see how it works out.
