Why the Recover tool call is saying "Rebuilding data pages..." when it actually are talking about layouts?
Why do you think that means layouts?
Do you have some info that I do not have? What else could be called pages in FMP?
My question to you is the same. By what info do you conclude that this refers to layouts?
”page” doesn’t get used in any of the public documentation describing the internal structure of the file as far as I know. “Page” is often used as a unit of measure for describing memory use so it makes more sense to me that the data in the file is somehow organized into pages, but we are both just guessing.
Would be nice to have Undercover session at DevCon about the Recovery Tool.
You are right, pages could be many things, but through the recover steps it goes through tables, field, index, value list and more that we could refer to
Step 2 Creates a new file ( see Attached )

Thank You very much for this link!
there is no date in the document, probably created under V10 (there is a remark mentioning V9 and V10)
-> this document is still valid for V16 and V17?
PM @shblackwell (author & on this forum) and see if these questions can be answered.

Yes this paper is still valid. The term 'page' is used for the 4k blocks our FM consist of.
Yes, it would be nice
Unfortunately, "File Corruption" for many years was like "Lord Voldemort", an issue that must not be named
I have collected more information here:
> Would be nice to have Undercover session at DevCon about the Recovery Tool
Yes. Pages are the base unit of data in the database from what I understand. Sometimes you hear about Page Locking or Page Structure at DevCon in under the hood sessions.
I was trying to find any DevCon Sessions on this 'recovery' for more documentation as well. I've messaged Mr. B.
Insofar as I know, the information from that Tech Brief is still accurate. Jon Thatcher retired about a year ago, so perhaps an inquiry can be made of appropriate PD management about any changes.
I seem to recall that someone did do a DevCon session about this, but I do not remember what year or who did it.

Only place in that document where I find the word Page is
"4. Delete cached settings (page setup, sort order, etc.)"
"Rebuild processed 10 page(s), completing end of file"
"Deleted last used page format"
But that still do not point me in the right direction on what a Page really is in the process of recovering the file. I kind of thing that Page is the same as Layout since it says "page setup" in the first of the the three, but I am not sure. The "Rebuild... " kind of makes me thing that the file had 10 layouts and they are where rebuild, but then the "Deleted last use page format", do not make much sense then. Page format? What is that Card/List/Table view?

"Page" does have more than one meaning in the Recover Log:
- "Page Setup" is a Print Option ( e.g. Portrait or Landscape ), which can be saved in a Script Step
- For "Rebuild processed 10 Pages", since 1 Page = 4096 bytes ( 1 Block ), the Log appears to use the words "Page" and "Block" interchangeably. Not sure why only "10" Pages at that point ( It would be nice if FileMaker someday explained all this )
- "last used page format" is what it says, the Print Option last used

"Delete cached settings ( page setup, sort order, etc. )"
and "Rebuild processed 10 page(s), completing end of file"
and "Deleted last used page format", But that still do not point me in the right direction on what a "Page" really is
Thanks for the information
