Could filemaker 17 or 16 run on the new Qualcomm powered windows pcs? Am planning to buy one and this would be a deal breaker for me
FileMaker 16 and 17 will run on Windows 10.
I would check with Qualcomm they could tell you more about the type software that would be able to run on their computers. Items I would check into is amount of ram, amount of disk space, cpu speeds (bench mark test).
Those Qualcomm PCs use ARM chips, not Intel. Since FMPA was compiled for Intel chips, I mean x86 architecture, I would be surprised it runs on ARM. These PCs will run a specific version of Windows 10. Unless there is a compatibility layer that mimics x86, FMPA won’t run. And running on a mimic layer would certainly means a performance penalty, at least.
There is an emulation mode for x86, see Windows 10 on ARM | Microsoft Docs but I don’t expect a lot from this.
Does anyone have an update on this? Anyone got FM17 to work on a Qualcomm with Windows 10? Presumably it won't work on Windows 10S. Same as OP, I'm planning to get one but not if I can't run FM17.
Windows 10s will only run software downloaded from the Microsoft Store. The surface go and other computers that ship with Windows 10s, will let you convert to Windows 10, there is no going back once converted to Windows 10. Check with the computer company to verify you can convert to Windows 10. If you have a full version of Windows 10 and meet the other Technical Specifications then it should run. You may want to look at some speed comparison test before you purchase.
