Importing MM/DD/YY data when system dates are set to DD/MM/YY

Hi, I’m new to FileMaker and trying to import a CSV file.

The CSV file has dates columns in MM/DD/YY (example records: 12/11/17, 12/12/17, 12/28/17, 12/14/17). Previously, I tried importing this to FileMaker directly through File > Import Records > File but it did not produce expected results. In Filemaker, the imported data is anomalous, and looks like: 12/11/2017, 12/12/17, 12/28/2017, 12/14/17. Note the 2nd and 4th records.

I've since figured out that FileMaker imports are dependent on macOS system short-date setting. The import worked normally only after I set my system to MM/DD/YY.

My question: how do I do the import of MM/DD/YY dates if I must keep my system short date setting as DD/MM/YY? I would rather not have to deal with creating a temporary field if that’s at all possible. Is this something I can do directly with Auto Calculated or Auto Enter fields during import? Is there a global FileMaker setting to use MM/DD/YY only in FileMaker?

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

(macOS, FileMaker Pro Advanced)
