Can anyone tell me what is the script for opening a PDF that is in a folder on the computer. I also want to be able to print this as another option.
I should have mentioned that the file is in a GLOBAL container field
Do you mean you have loaded the PDF to the global field as reference only?
You can calculated the file path as text from the container field.
Are you on Mac?, If so, you can then use an Apple Script to open the target file via Mac OS Finder.IF not, someone else will weigh in with the other options. Otherwise, I can reply back with details.
Export the file with the automatically open option turned ON and then the PDF will open in whatever is the default PDF reader
Exporting the field contents creates a new copy of the file. If you export to the temporary items folder, this new copy will not be retained and this can keep down the "file clutter".
Thanks everyone, I ended up working it out. I would like to know how to print a PDF without opening it if this is possible.
BUT this depends on quite a few things
Is this Mac or Win??
AcroRd32.exe /t path printername drivername portname - Initiates
Acrobat Reader, prints a file while suppressing the Acrobat print dialog
box, then terminates Reader.
I suggest you (insert favourite search engine here) PDF silent print
This topic is not as easy as it first seems unless you have complete control of the environment on each client machine
Do you use MBS FileMaker Plugin?
There you could launch the file with Files.LaunchFile in the PDF viewer.
And without Adobe Reader, you can even print a PDF directly:
Yes I see what you mean, probably easier to just open the PDF and print from there. Pretty well what you normally do anyway. I think I am just complicating things when I don't have to. So easy to get caught up with stuff you don't need.
Thanks, no haven't tried these. Do you need to purchase the plugins. Trying to avoid extra costs at the moment.
