Syncing Offline to Filemaker Pro for Performance Speed

In my quest for improving the performance speed, I have pinpointed the slow problem and it's the high internet latency.

I have remote users from other countries using the solution and having a server in a closer location won't work.

I think offline syncing to filemaker pro database at users' computers will work. I have found there are several softwares like mirrorSync, GoZync etc.. for doing that.

I have searched through the forum and other places as well but I didn't find a single one suggesting syncing the database for remote users will speed up the performance.

I am wondering if there are any downsides to it. I have seen threads where others are using remote desktop apps for having speed access (although I think it won't improve the situation much) but not a single thread suggested about syncing the databse.

Also, what about the security? Having an offline synced file at user's desktop looks like quite risky.
