With Filemaker 17 – Is it now possible to send rich text email without using plugin?
I thought this was one of the new features, but I still get plain text emails.
Have I missed something?
No the new feature is sending multiple attachments.
Ok, thanks Jens.
We presently need either a service or a plugin to accomplish the sending of HTML email.
We have been getting really close to being able to write our own FMP scripts to perform a SMTP sending of and HTML email with all the desired goodies, such as inline images without links or base-64 image URIs, custom headers, and multiple attachments.
FMI keeps giving us easily-overlooked jewels of functions, such as the Base64EncodeRFC function, and the TextEncode function, that bring us closer to rolling our own advanced SMTP functionality. The main missing piece is the connection/transmission/authentication piece, which just so happens to be available via implementations of cURL.
SMTP capabilities of cURL are not presently made available within Insert From URL. I'm not convinced there's sufficient motivation for FMI to expose such capabilities -- it might just make more sense to continue expanding upon the Send Mail script step.
But -- we are close, and as I like to point out, collectively (and I include both the FMP product line, and the developer community) we keep expanding upon what we can do.
Perhaps a few years from now, there will be a variety of plug-in and service-free FMP SMTP implementations which are capable of a great variety of extra features.
