SSL Certificate for private FQDN

I've noticed that the last couple of version of FileMaker flag unsecured connections with a lock icon. I recently upgraded our FM server and pro advance clients to version 17 and decided to investigate implementing an SSL certificate. The FM server is on dedicated hardware that is ONLY used locally by staff. I checked with several CAs and as of 2015 the FQDN needs to be accessible publicly to create an SSL certificate. I have no intention of making this server publicly available. GlobalSign offers an IntranetSSL certificate, has anyone tried using this type of certificate to resolve the encryption status for FM?
