I have a FM solution that I use for tracking our saas metrics. I'm interested in making it available to other team members via cloud. Our saas application is mostly powered through AWS and it would be easy for us to launch a new EC2 instance for the FM solution.
Everything I'm seeing seems to involve some 3rd party "Orbitera" which has horrible review on AWS marketplace. My question is - why do we need a party other than AWS and FM to accomplish this? Is there no other option to manually configure an EC2 / AMI for FM cloud, without the 3rd party?
My developer experience is limited to FM, so maybe I'm probably not understanding this fully. I haven't found any threads that address this.
You can certainly run your own FMS on AWS, many of us do. But it involves setting up a Windows instance. No Orbitera involvement, it's just like setting up your own on-premise FMS.
FM Cloud is a total package with FMS running on CentOS Linux. Just so that you know: you can install your own FMS on Linux, it has to be Windows if you're going AWS. But you get all the features of FMS. FM Cloud has some limitations that the full FMS does not have.
