So is printing from Wed Direct an impossibility? Or is you've been able to figure that out and can share the script that is called, I'd really appreciate that. I was able to do that in FileMaker 16 but not in 17.
It is supported.
View > as PDF
Sorry Is that a script step?
I wrote menu item. You can use standard "Print" script step, then it results PDF in new window.
I can’t get that to work with my web direct application. Do you have one that I can see it work?
Or can you send me a sample file where it does work?
Thanks for answering too.
There is no special scripting, only 1 step "Print" button which I tested. Of course you'd need "Print Setup" to set paper size etc. but without it user can select "with dialog".
How do you fail in your application? Do you test it with full access account or print enabled privilege?
I can do that using FileMaker 17 but when trying to print from the web with web direct, the print button just sits there. I understand what you’re saying when I’m working in the application using FileMaker Pro Advanced 17 and accessing Server 17 but from the web using webdirect, I’m not able to get it to even come to a pdf view. I was successful in 16 at least once.
Thanks for your help with this.
Using the script step 'Print [ With dialog: Off ]' works fine here with Server 17 WebDirect - new browser tab opens with PDF in it. You can also choose to show the Print dialog. One thing to check is that you do not have any pop-up window blockers turned on as they will prevent the new window/tab with the PDF from opening. Another thing to check is that you do not have any other layout object layered on top of your print button as WeDdirect does not support clicking 'through' layered objects.
Also check you are using supported browser, e.g not Firefox... I did want to copy and paste the list of supported browsers from the Server 17 Tech Specs page - Technical Specifications | FileMaker Server 17 - on filemaker.com, but the site seems to be down at the moment - oops.
[Edit: Tech Specs page now found] Supported browsers for WebDirect on Server 17 are:
FileMaker WebDirect is accessible from a web browser. Supported web browsers include:
I didn’t think about popup blocker. It might be just that. Wish there was a warning from the server about that. Thanks so much.
I've just tested pop-up blocker in Safari and Chrome on macOS and in both cases, if pop-up windows/redirects are being blocked, then when I try to print (to create PDF in WebDirect) I see the following warning appear in the middle of the browser window for a couple of seconds...
