I have a multiple data table solution that has serial number links in its relationships. This works fine with clients that are always connected. But I want to allow for a client to do work while disconnected, and for synching to happen when connection is resumed.
The big problem I see in this is generating new, unique serial numbers for new data records while the client is operating without a connection to FMServer.
Any suggestions for a solution to this?
My present thinking is along the lines of severely limiting the new records that can be created while not connected to FMServer; that is, allow only creation of child records of an existing parent record whose serial number is the foreign key in the new child records.
But are there any tools that would facilitate a more general approach to synching?
