I would like to draw a few simple shapes in Filemaker 11 pro Adv. Any ideas on how to get this done? I know i can just past a graphic in there but id like to be able to do it within FM11. Thanks!
If you insert a square (all sides equal) and make the rounded corners equal, you get a great "circle".
200x200 with 100 corner radius
use the Oval tool and make sure the dimensions are correct for a 'circle'
200x200 oval is a circle.
I may use the rounded-corner square for 1/2 & 1/4 circles.
As you already know Filemaker is not a drawing program...
You can insert simple lines, squares, rounded rectangles and ovals when in layout mode but that is it.
Actually, if you hold down the shift key, FM will constrict the height/width to equal ratios. So holding down shift while "drawing" an oval will yield a circle!
Also, I believe we support SVG graphics on the layout, so you can make one in a drawing program and place it on the layout.
Great idea!! that is really what i wanted... an easier way to get a half or quarter circle!! Although I dont see a way to edit the corner radius sizes in FM11's inspector. Thanks for the input!
You are correct. FileMaker Pro v 11 does not have the corner radius feature in Inspector. An SVG would not work in that version. You may need to use PNG or JGP in FMPro 11. These will not be scalable (not as well as SVG), so plan for various sizes if needed.
Thanks again Beverly really helpful info! I'm trying to get some basic shapes into FileMaker that are able to be manipulated so svg is also a great idea!
I tested and could NOT bring an SVG into FileMaker Pro (Advanced).
These are the only formats I could insert on the layout:
I suggest using PNG.
But, as pointed out by David_McKee, holding the shift key while drawing with the oval tool will constrain proportions and draw a circle. The same thing happens if you hold shift while drawing a rectangle—you get a square.

There isn't one. The Inspector was very rudimentary in FM11. Add that to you list of reasons to upgrade.
