Filemaker pro 14 suddenly requires a password to open my database after 5 years and no, "admin" does not work. This is very disruptive, I can't get into my files!
What changed since the last time it worked ?
Often, we think a file have no password since it is stored on the Keychain (Mac, or analog feature in Windows). But if the keychain entry is cleared (machine or session change) then you have enter the password.
Another scenario, less probable, is the file has an option set to automate login, but it is bypassed by maintaining alt Key (Mac) or Maj Key (Windows) during opening.
Also, after installing a new version of FileMaker Pro, until you restart your computer, the existing Keychain entry may be ignored.
I reinstalled my current version, I upgraded to a new version, I used safe mode, I didn't change keychain, I did change keychain, Admin/admin didn't work in any combination... then I found the login for *this* board did work. Go figure.
Filemaker tech support blamed it on iCloud degrading it, on transferring back and forth to iPad degrading it, on Mac in general degrading it, on something entirely inexplicable degrading it, so that it suddenly changed to requiring the password. Whatever it was, it made for an entirely frightening and frustrating six hours of lock-out from my business after 26 years of reliability. Not good!
BTW - absolutely nothing changed between opening it one minute perfectly ok, and no being able to open it eight hours later.
