I'm using FM 17.
Can I change the subsummary layout from vertical to horizonal?
Chang it to
10/1/2018 10/2/2018 10/3/2018
Not by using sub summary parts.
But there are a number of ways that you can employ to get such a "cross tab" or "pivot table" report.
all (listed in no particular order) might be employed to produce that result.
Yes - but
If I did that, I would have to create calculations to populate in the portals, which would slow it down as the records grow. The summary and average for this found set is fast.
So a question on Calculations:
In FM12 I have a calculation that re-calcalculates it for every found set. It's obnoxious. Is there a way to avoid that with the protals?
Portals were only one of three options listed. You might not need any added calculations to use them. A set of global match fields, for example, might be used instead of a filter expression.
Performance problems caused by unstated calculations are generally mitigated via one or a combination of the following:
a) limit the set of records being accessed when the expression recalculates. Don’t Allow a found set of massive size on a layout with a summary field or don’t set up a Cartesian join based portal to a table with a lot of records and then filter it. Or set up a summary table were each record has stored values calculated from many records in the original table.
b) Find a way to store the value. A script can update a data field with a calculated value every time a user modified the data in a way that requires an update.
