In some of my Filemaker files, when I enter a date formatted mm/dd/yyyy, I get this message:
I've tried everything I know to fix this with no success. Does anyone know what's going on?
What are the settings on your OS for date format?
(Screen shot, please?!)
What language(s): OS, FileMaker, keyboard, etc.

I seem to recall that a number of date related "locality" settings are picked up from the OS by the file at the time it was created.
You may need to save a clone of the file on a machine with the settings that you want and then import all your data into the clone. I seem to recall reading here in the forum that the clone will then pick up new settings from the OS.
If you are dealing with a solution where the clients do not all have the same locality settings, you may need to get a bit more creative with the interface design.
It sounds as though some of your files were created (or cloned and reopened) on an operating system (OS) with the date format of mm/yyyy/dd.
If you look at the help link below, you will see that you can select how the FileMaker file determines which date format to use (under "To set text handling and data entry options for the current file:” Item 3, "In the Data Entry area, select one or more of the following options:":
If the OS you are using has the mm/dd/yyyy format, you would select the first option, "Always use current system settings”. I believe this would solve your immediate issue.
Going forward you could make sure the OS date format conforms to what you want when beginning to create a new database. Alternatively with files you have in hand that display this issue, as philmodjunk mentioned, you can create a clone, reopen it on the correct date-formatted OS, and import the records. You then select the second option, "Use the system settings saved with the file for display and data entry of numbers, dates, and times.”
Following up on beverly's question, more info about how the file ended up with that computer language preference would be interesting as the date format mm/yyyy/dd is a bit unusual. I can’t see it in this compilation: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Date_format_by_country
Just another comment/question:
The posted error appears to be from FileMaker Pro Advanced 11, is that correct, cgmoyer ?
Possible answers may depend on the version used.
As an observation, looking at the Wikipedia page for Date formats by country, I can find no mention of anywhere in the world using this format for date. Out of curiosity, where are you based?
