Is there a way for Windows users to jump to a value in a pop-up menu by typing the first several characters?

I developed a number of layouts for an inventory solution that utilize a pop-up menu to select the displayed name of a value list but store the ID (for example, Vendor ID, Category ID, etc). It works fairly seamlessly on the mac since you can type the item or vendor you're looking for, and it jumps right to that value in the list, but I didn't realize this behavior didn't happen on Windows until I starting hearing feedback from users.

I could revert to a drop-down list as I do for Item ID's, but it never feels as clean to easily manage an ID selection. What I typically do if I go to a drop-down list is use a separate field for the selection and then run a script when exiting that field to update the ID field. A viable alternative but not preferred if I can avoid it.
