New iPads Reserve Screen Space on Top/Bottom

Anyone noticed that the new iPad Pros (12.9 / 11) running FM GO (and other apps) reserve additional screen space at the top of the screen to display date, time, wi-fi status, battery percentage, and at the bottom of the screen to display the dock gesture space?

I’m assuming this is to support the new Face ID features on the iPad Pros..

The app title bar then appears to have excessive white space left in it as on previous iPads, this info was located in the App title bar area.

this takes away a good bit of screen space that used to be usable on prior generation iPads.
