Hello. I would like to lay out the texts of a contract in FM 17.
How to create multiple pages?
Thank you in advance.
PS: I am a beginner.
If it's just going to be one contract described in the file and mere text objects (not table fields) on a layout,
just extend the Body part downward as far as you need to go to span multiple pages.
It helps to View > Page Breaks.
Otherwise, please describe how you hope to layout the text of the contract.
Are the multiple contracts, contract text fields, etc?
By the way, welcome to FileMaker and to the Community.
Reporting is one of the weakest areas in FMP. I don't think it has been seriously improved for many versions.
If I need to anything more complex than the current version allows, I export the data and do a Mail Merge in MS Word (or whatever app the client wants to use) and build a template in that app to format the data. For all but the simplest reports, that usually works better.
For some complex "reports" I may have multiple paragraphs in separate records (with a sort order number field to get these correctly printed in order). Then a "list view with sliding" (Removing blank spaces in printouts ) makes these print much better than trying to push into one single "layout". Some reports might go longer (taller) than what you can get with simply making the layout BODY part taller and one record.
The other answers are also great alternatives, BTW! \
Thank you for your reply. It is a 4 pages contract with header and footer. I would like that when I print, the 4 pages are together. And in the print preview, see page by page. Thank you.
Important !!! I have 15 contracts with data for 15 people (names, address, ..). Thank you.
Do you have 4 records? Then use a List View layout (the field can be tall - even over 'pages' in the BODY part) and use the sliding mentioned in the link I posted. This makes everything "flow together. You might post screen shots of your layout (Layout Mode) to assist you better.
That's fine, you can still have multiple records (paragraphs) that relate back to the person! Just "find" these records when needed.
What kind of reporting feature would you suggest?
If they are consistently 4 pages, then
it's the same instructions for extending the body to four pages and putting your text fields on them.
I strongly disagree with your first sentence
Maximum Layout size: 32,000pt x 32,000pt; may be limited by currently selected printer and page setup. Objects beyond current page width do not print
As long as the total length of the fields can span less than 32,000 pts, yes this is a good method.
4 pages < 3,000 pts.
Looks like we can do at least 40 pages per layout.
Yeay! Thanks for checking, Eric!
FileMaker is not a very good desktop publishing program, but can be integrated with desktop publishing.
However, if I were try to do everything within FileMaker, I'd have a field named Paragraph, limited to the size of a whole page, and use "Sliding up". Each record would be a paragraph. You can differentiate contracts with another field like Contract or ID_Contract.
Would become this when printing or in Print Preview:
Thank you for all your answers. I was able to do my contract with 6 pages thanks to you. It takes longer to build, but I will save a lot of time. Before, I had to type the names one by one. Thank you and congratulations to everyone.
That's good news!
