I wonder if someone can help how to import complete Filemaker database(.Fm12) into SQL server.
Here is the client and server detail that we are using:
Filemaker Client : Filemaker PRO 14
Filemaker Server: Filemaker 14
Really appreciate your solutions!
Thank you very much for your help!
Is this a one-time operation? If so it's probably easiest to export as CSV and then import that into your new database.
If this is a regular operation (e.g.: daily), then I would be looking at connecting to your SQL database from FileMaker using ESS and handling the entire process from FileMaker.
It's quite informative, It's basically a one time operation but just for my curiosity please advise how to tackle this using ESS.
What are the steps using ESS in order to convert .Fm12 database to SQL server with full schema and records?
Howdy, amitkt9! You must have the permission to access the SQL database remotely, you must have the permissions to administer the SQL schema. You must have the 'approved' ODBC drivers of the 'approved' SQL DBS. Start here for some of that information:
External SQL Data Source Overview
IF you don't have ESS connect-ablity you may have, alternatively, the ability (with FMServer) to share the data with SQL dbs (FMServer is the source), or make direct queries (INSERT INTO) to SQL dbs that may not be "ESS".
And if ODBC (or JDBC) don't work, then the Export Records (as .CSV) would give you the columns of data you need. The recommendation is to use the .MER format to include the column headers, but label the files with the .CSV extension instead.
There is no "SQL dump" to give you the ability to directly open the files a "sql-ready". I'm also a SQL dba (database administrator). The listed 'connectivity' is what you have.
Please come back with questions as needed. Keep in mind that in any case you ONLY get the schema and data into SQL. You do not get the interface or any of the scripting that is integrated to the FileMaker tables & fields.
