Compatibilidad de Filemaker con un NAS de Synology ?
Filemakers and NAS synology Disk, compatibility?
NAS is always a no-no because it is based on file sharing. FM does not work well through OS-level or any other non-FM type of sharing and it is historically the #1 cause for damaged files.
I have a Synology DS1618+, which is a mid-size one. Forget it... get a real computer.
1. NAS in file sharing : no, period
2. I asked some FM people in the server and cloud division to evaluate the chance for a Synology App version of FM server due to the fact that you can install the app from an AppStore like area and that the Apps are “selected / closed / autoinstalled and cured” and that they runs under a variant version of linux pretty close to centos ( the os of the amazon fms version )
I dont have an answer yet but if someday fm decide to follow this path it will be a good idea to buy a synology, install FMS in a one step and click ”done” the model will depend just in the amount of fm users.
I have a mid size Synology and the processor is too small to run FMS along with the rest of applications. I tried it and it was totally unusable.
We could try with a Docker instance of FileMaker Server running under Windows Server but it seems too much trouble. Finally, if you already have Windows Server and a computer, why create a Docker on Linux?.
