When copying and pasting into a field on a web layout, the last digit is dropping. Is there a reason/easy fix?
I am new and am accessing an existing database.
Is it lost on copy or lost on paste?
Didn't think of that. It's lost on the paste.
Do you have any script triggers attached to the field you're pasting into?
Edit: Or any auto-enter calculations on the field in the table definition?
It's just a text field. No scripts or auto-enter calculations. It's actually on 2 layouts that I've found. One is our ordering layout through the web. It's the Catalog Number and it also has dropped the last digit on the Description field. The second layout is our log-in through the web. The user name and password drops the last digit when you paste.
From what I see, they are all just text fields. You can see the digit was dropped immediately after pasting in.
Are you entering the data into the web layout using Web Direct? Does it also happen off-line -- i.e. if you copy the file to a local hard drive and open it in FileMaker Pro?
Yes we are using webdirect. When I paste into the layout in the browser, it shows the entire paste. When I click out of the field it drops the last digit. This does not happen when I open FileMaker and go to that same layout and paste into it then click out. It keeps the whole paste.
Okay. So, the data is in the field and a character is being chopped off only when you view it online?
Now, are you using a custom theme? Or have you modified one of the themes that shipped with FileMaker Pro?
The themes that FileMaker developed seem to have extra padding around all sides of text fields, which I assume was done to prevent the situation you are describing from happening. So, if you are looking for a quick answer, it might be to simply change the theme. Or to change the amount of padding in your text fields (or just make them longer).
Is the data actually gone or is it just not displaying it? If you click back in, is the last character still there?
No. The last character is gone. When I click back in the cursor is right after the second to last digit. The last digit is missing. It also says there is no user by that name (when I past in the user name).
We did just change all the themes to "Minimalist" since the one we were using was no longer supported by FileMaker. I'll look into that and see what I can find out.
You said the character is actually removed not when pasted, but when exiting the field, right? What happens if you type in the same information manually and then exit the field?
FYI. I found my notes from the change to the Minimalist themes. We had to change the padding to 0 all around of the text was cut off. Will be looking at this in more detail next week.
Have a good weekend and thanks
One report of Webdirect dropping characters was mentioned up a few months ago. A work around was presenting a custom dialog providing the data entry.
Here is the thread:
