I am in Europe (France) and i need to add some accounting fields to one of my tables, but it only shows in dollars, is there any easy way to change this ?
you do this in the inspector in the rightmost Tab (data) towards the bottom:
Under Format pick Currency, and then for the Symbol change $ to Euros.
Are you asking about how the values are formatted for the user, or about converting between dollars and Euros? If the former, can't you simply change the currency symbol via the Inspector for the fields in question? If the later, you'll need to add a calculation field for each field that stores values in dollars, that would have a calculation to convert to Euros. Perhaps have one field that you store the conversion rate, which the "euro" fields then use to convert the "dollar" fields.
You have a field for Dollars so you need three new fields:
1) Global Field for Exchange Rate: ____
2) Rate: ____ Use the auto enter settings when creating a number field (not a calculated field) and set the value to Global Rate. This value should not change if you change the Global Exchange Rate. When a new record is created it enters the global value.
3) Eros = Dollars * Rate
Enter a Global Exchange Rate
Test this by creating several new records
The Rate should be the global.
Now change the value in the global. If the Rate changes you did it wrong.
Create several new records which should show the new rate.
List your records and you should have several at the old rate and several at the new rate. If this happens it’s probably correct.
can you attach a picture about your field showing in dollars ?
As planteg said, you can use the Inspector to select another currency symbol instead of the default one.
To change the default, make sure you have Euro selected as the currency in your OS preferences. Then save a copy of your file as clone (no records), open it and import your data into it.
