How to play an Audio File from a remote volume, not using a container field?

I've been trying to find a solution to play audio files without using container fields as there's a separate process for putting the mp3's into the folder that's outside FM. Tried using a web viewer for this with the following code but can't get it to play. The volume is mounted and the file exists and everything looks good when viewed with the data viewer. What am I missing? This snippet was lifted from another article that was referencing the file on the users local desktop. Not sure why a remote volume would create an issue.

"data:text/html,¶" &

varSoundFileName = Versions|RecordingInformation_MusicID_RevID_VersionID::SourceFilename;

varFilePath = Substitute( GetAsURLEncoded ( "file:///Volumes/WebCDN/" & varSoundFileName  ); [ "%2F"; "/" ] )

"<audio controls=\"controls\"><source src=\"" & varFilePath & "\" type=\"audio/mp3\" /></audio>"
