I have created new edit fields but when I come out of edit layout mode I am unable to edit the fields. Any suggestions? I have looked through training videos and from what I can see I have added the tables and fields correctly. I am baffled.
ReidLarson gave you the solution (see my new screenshot) :
In layout Mode, check "Allow Entering Data", from the inspector (Data Tab) once your objects selected ?
I cant see that option.
What do you mean by "unable"? Can you not click into the field? Does an error message appear when you try to type into it?
I cannot click into the fields to edit them. No error message.
Sorry bad translation : Behavior:Field Entry: Browse mode.
By the way could you capture the screen to illustrate the issue ?

In edit mode so added the fields in.
Cannot tab into any of the fields or edit them
It's not clear from your screenshots if the object is selected (the field you want to edit) while the inspector is displaying the browse mode is active. If I have no objects selected, my inspector also displays that.
It sounds like the table associated to the layout is wrong.
See the "::"before the name of the fields in layout mode.
That mean the base table of the layout is different than the table of the concerned fields

Looks like I have made this alot more complicated which is why it wasnt working. This is a cut of the layout for a work order:
I have tables set up within the AV Asset tab for each of the tabs (control, display, players). I have then added all of the fields to the tables and linked the tables by the work order reference. However it looks like what I have tried to achieve has complicated matters and what I have done is then create a layout for each table and field.
If i have understood this correctly then to be able to edit the fields I need to create all of the fields within the store works order layout. Is that right?
You can edit fields not part of the current layout's table occurrence as long as the fields are part of a related table occurrence. If the related record has not yet been created, you may want to enable "allow creation of records in this table via this relationship" under the relationships tab of manage databases.
Hi Not sure how I would do this sorry as you may have guessed still getting to grips with filemaker. So this is the relationships from the tables created which are all linked to the work order ID in the work order table. I would need to allow editing of the control, players, av asset, displays and distribution tables.
Perfect thank you so much for your help really appreciate it.
