Should Filemaker Go lose data when not connected to network?

I am setting up a client with Filemaker Go that interfaces with his Macbook via the local wireless network. It works just fine when the phone is in the house but when he leaves or the Macbook is turned off, he loses the data on his phone. We're not interested in having the Go version sync back to the Macbook but want to upload the data to Go and leave it there so he can have access when traveling. Do I have to disconnect the Go once the data is uploaded? Do I have to save the data in some way on the iphone to have access to it? He is using Go version 15 and FMP version 17.
