I want to give add into a custom menu just one and only one particular submenu item, File>Manage>Value Lists. But I don't want to allow access to the other File>Manage submenu items.
Can this be done?
Maybe (can’t check using smart phone to reply), but giving a non developer access to all of your value lists doesn’t sound like a good idea. Setting up tables for the values in the value list and allowing select users access to edit those records for specific value lists sounds like a better, safer and more user friendly option.
In this case, I have about 100 value lists. Half of them use the technique you describe but I need to give my subject matter expert access to the ones that require editing and did not want to create so many extra tables. Screen shot explains why, and this is just a partial view.
FileMaker's security gives you the ability to allow someone to manage value lists, to modify them. So I don't see why it would be a problem, security-wise.
You'd have to create a new privilege set or add to the users' existing ones the ability to modify.
Then, I'd create a button to Manage Value lists (there's a step for that) so they don't get confused by the menu location.
I wouldn't do it as a custom menu. I'd instead use, as I describe above, FIleMaker's security priv set and a script
