Conditional formatting slowing down my list.

So.... I use conditional formatting to color code data all over my system.

 

The most common is for labor type:

Graphics is Green

Editorial is Blue

Finish is Pink

AE is Orange.

This color code appears all over the system.

 

Over the many installation clients have wanted to change the labor type sand the related colors.

Maybe they want Graphics to be Print.

Maybe they want Finishing to be Red.

 

So to give the client more control, and save myself the effort of updating these conditional format on dozens of layout I came up with this:

 

In My system preference I have fields for Type and preset fields for colors (all as global field posted upon launch the system for each user). And my conditional formats reference this data.

 

But now I am noticing a significant slow down when scrolling through a labor list with occasional spinning beachballs.

 

Once I removed the conditional formatting the problem went away.

 

So before I undo all this work I am curious for opinions.
