I am thinking about changing my inventory database to make the pictures of the items to be stored in a external container (open). My question is there a way to move the pictures back into the containers later if I wanted too?
Yes. You can change the field definition to make it a regular container field. Or if you have many container fields you can do a 'save a copy as (self contained)"
Is there a way to have the pictures re-inserted back into the correct container?
That's what I just described. You don't need to reinsert yourself. FM does it for you when you change the container field type to embedded or do the 'save as self contained'.
Thanks for the help, I ran several tests and all went great. So I go to the application on the server and opened manage containers to set the storage folder, and the text [hosted location] was placed in front of my path. I can't edit it and if it is going to move the images there it will do me no good.
Any ideas??? /backups/BCK/ is where I want to go.
What you are trying to do here is different than what this thread is about so I'm a little uncertain what your intent is with trying to change the location of the RC data.
Why do you want to change this location?
As to [hosted location]: the RC data on FMS is always stored in a path relative to where your actual FM file is (the 'hosted location'). You can change that but not from that dialog, but from the FMS admin panel. Through the FMS config you can set it up so that your actual FM file goes into one custom location and its RC data into a totally different folder or even drive.
But it will remain RC data, whereas your original question was about how to stop a container from being RC in the first place and embed everything into the FM file. You won't get there by manipulating RC location folders.
