Parsing for a space

Parsing based on number followed by a space. I have a file with 1600 lines that I want to extract the code at the beginning of the line. All codes end in a number followed by a space. I want to extract the code and insert it into another field. Not all codes are the same length. I want to search for the first space and extract everything to the left of the space.

All help is welcomed.

Thanks,
