Contacts and companies and invoices

I’m wondering what is the accepted best approach to handling a contacts and invoicing system, with regards to companies and individuals *if* you want to keep track of invoices and to whom and/or to which company they are related, when viewed from the perspective of the contacts table.  So the main context of viewing is from contacts and not from invoices and from the point of view the contacts.


When you make a new contact card for an individual, do you always make a contact card for the company at the same time (if one for that company doesn’t already exist) and if not, what do you do for the relationship for a company’s invoices, if the individual they were addressed to, leaves the company and the company field on the individual’s card, is changed to another company?
