Display Related Record by Selecting a record in a Portal

Hello,

 

I have a portal where users can select a record. I want to display the values from that record without going to the related record. I'm looking to do this via a relationship.

 

Currently I have this working by using a script trigger to enter a value in a global field <SELECTED_RECORD_g>. This field is used in a relationship with the foreign (related) table.

I thought there was a native way to do this in FM17, or is this the best way of doing this?
